Huelskamp hits Obama over DOMA

Submitted by Congressman Huelskamp’s office:

In reaction to the Obama administration’s decision not to defend the Defense of Marriage Act, which Congress passed and a Democrat president signed into law in 1996, Congressman Huelskamp offered the following remarks:

“In complicity with special interests that brought him to Washington, the President has clearly decided to abdicate his constitutional responsibilities,” said Congressman Huelskamp said during a 12-stop town hall tour of the First District of Kansas. “And for the Justice Department to heed this edict is a complete and utter disregard for its legal obligations as well. The Obama Administration is clearly turning the Justice Department into a legal mouthpiece for its Leftist allies.”

“This is just another example of this President skirting the checks and balances enshrined in our Constitution,” Congressman Huelskamp said. “Voters in a majority of states – including Kansas – have passed constitutional amendments to define marriage as being between one man and one woman only. This is one more instance of President Obama ignoring the clear will of the people.”

While in the Kansas State Senate, Tim Huelskamp authored the Kansas Marriage Amendment. It was overwhelmingly approved by the voters in April 2005.

  1. See the next post on why Obama will win in a government shutdown to see why he’ll win and Huelskamp will lose on this issue of gay marriage.

I hate to inform Huelskamp, but no freshman in the party opposite the president can win against that much power. It’s like being in a traffic accident against a minivan full of nuns. You can’t beat their word in court, because it’s so powerful. A release like this may make Huelskamp and his supporters feel good, but for what?

Better for Huelskamp to be quiet on this one and use what pulpit he has for more productive stuff, like promoting adoption, where his personal life story offers significant positive juice of moral authority.
