Tea Party Express kicked out of movement

Well, kinda. I’m not sure how it works. How does one remove a person or group from what is, at best, a loose confederation?

However, if there ever was a reason to show a group the door, it’s this – a blog post by Tea Party Express founder Mark Williams┬áthat rose from the NAACP’s resolution against alleged racism on the part of Tea Party members.

The post, since taken down, began as follows:

“Dear Mr. Lincoln, We Coloreds have taken a vote and decided that we don’t cotton to that whole emancipation thing. Freedom means having to work for real, think for ourselves, and take consequences along with the rewards. That is just far too much to ask of us Colored People and we demand that it stop!”

And continued, saying:

“Bailouts are just big money welfare and isn’t that what we want all Coloreds to strive for?” the posting said. “What kind of racist would want to end big money welfare? What they need to do is start handing the bail outs directly to us coloreds!”

There’s a fine line between satire and stupidity. Willaims says the post was satirical. It was, in fact, stupid. Anyone who thinks that’s satirical should not be in charge of any political movement, unless it thinks “Birth of a Nation” is the feel-good movie of the century. Given that the Tea Party Express have been quite active in endorsements here In Kansas, it will be interesting to see how many campaigns continue to tout them after this debacle.

CNN has more on the story.

  1. This can’t be! The Tea Party Express endorsed Todd Tiaparty Tiahrt!

Since when is it ok to blog racial satire? I write satire on a daily basis and it never includes racism.

  2. Exactly why Tiahrt shouldn’t have been flouting this endorsement in the first place. This was just a group of folks trying to take advantage of a grassroots movement for their own gain. Tea party is a theme, not a group.

  3. Shocking that kansassitysinic and backroadsnewsroom, two liberal Democrat’s, are condemning the TEA Party movement. Need I remind you freaks that this is a Republican Primary Election…you know, for grown-ups.

  4. “Democrat’s?” Is that possessive? Judging by your post, perhaps Kansas needs to invest more state dollars in Education.

  5. To further maintain the fact that Tiahrt supporters would rather throw mud than accept facts, check out this link (as I’ve stated in a previous comment). I’m listed right there under “vice-chair” of the Washington County Republican Party.
Don’t call me a liberal Democrat.
And if you’re basing the entire Tea Party movement on the sham Tea Party Express, then you’ve done an injustice to the movement for conservative reform as a whole. Shame on you Rex. Shame on your man Tiahrt for letting you publicly support him with such ridiculousness. You’re just making him look worse than he’s already doing for himself.

  6. Thanks for the grammar lesson kansassitysinic….that is rich coming from someone who can’t spell “city” in their own log in name.

Congrats, backroadsnewsroom, you are a liberal Republican instead of a Democrat….in my book that is even worse.

  7. Keep going Rex,
You’re representing your man Tiahrt well.
