Jilka hits the airwaves

The 1st District’s lone Democrat candidate Alan ┬áJilka announced a television ad buy Monday. The former Salina mayor purchased a 90-second ad spot which will air on Tuesday, July 20, during the KWCH 5 p.m. newscast, Fox Kansas at 9 p.m. newscast and on Wednesday, July 21, during the CW 7 a.m. newscast.

The buy does not equal the airtime purchased by most of the race’s Republican candidates, who have ads airing daily, but it is a ┬ábig step in Jilka’s campaign and means he has raised a decent amount of money. In a release Monday, Jilk’a campaign noted it had a “strong finish” to its second-quarter fundraising. We should know exact figures later this week as candidates will publish their contribution and debt statements.

About Katie Stockstill-Sawyer

I am a city girl that is learning about life on the farm. I met and married a fourth-generation farmer, Derek. I am now a farmer's wife and country girl. The move has required a few changes and a lot of learning. But I wouldn't change my new life and all of the little lessons and surprises it provides.

  1. I’ve always wondered why candidates who have no chance at all of winning, continue to spend their supporters’ money on their campaigns. But then again, any money spent on Jilka’s campaign is money not spent on a Democrat’s campaign elsewhere, so more power to him!
