The leaders of Moran’s veteran’s team are fighting back against allegations from the Tiahrt campaign. Lieutenant General (Ret.) Rich Keller, Co-Chairman of the Veterans for Moran Steering Committee, and Command Sergeant Major (Ret.) Richard A. Young issued the following comments on comments from Tiahrt’s campaign:
“These dated, out of context statements against Congressman Moran on Military Commissions do little to inform voters on important military matters. Moran does support tribunals for prosecuting terrorists. The 2006 bill was not tough enough and had too many loopholes. He voted against it. Since then, new laws have revised tribunals to significantly reduce the likelihood of convictions being overturned.
Let’s get past this Tiahrt campaign’s focus on a flawed bill and focus instead on Congressman Moran’s whole record. It’s a consistently strong record of supporting national security and the military, and has been for years. His record includes thoughtful and successful opposition to attempts to move Guantanamo to Kansas. Thank you, Jerry Moran.”
Keller the former Chief of Staff of U.S. European Command. He was commissioned from ROTC as an infantry officer and served thirty-five years in the U.S. Army with tours in Korea, Vietnam, Germany and the United States rising to the rank of Lieutenant General.
Young retired as a Command Sergeant Major in 2002 and currently resides in Manhattan and works to support our troops and their families through involvement with Fort Riley and the First Infantry Division.
