Heffington poem expresses love of July 4

GOP gubernatorial candidate Joan Heffington decided to pen a few lines in praise of Independence Day. You might remember her as claiming the CIA is experimenting on Kansans, and placing chips in peoples heads via satellite.

What the 4th of July Means to Me
By Joan Farr Heffington

Hot dogs, flags and apple pie,
family, friends and folk nearby
shooting off fireworks in the sky
but never really knowing why
my father had to die
in Viet Nam.

Mom tried hard to raise us right,
seemed like things were always tight,
it was awhile before I saw the light,
I just always wanted to fight
authority.

God finally told me not to cry,
my father’s mission was so that I
could seek the truth and not a lie
help the rich before they die
get to heaven.

Some day America will finally be
memories of what we used to see
more the “we” and not the “me”
so we don’t even need the tea
hooray – it’s finished!
