4th District Contradiction

The authors behind the Prairie Politics blog don’t reside in the state’s 4th Congressional district, but we are lucky enough to hear and see the candidate’s television and radio advertisements- thanks to our Wichita television stations. The ads only add to the consistent stream of politicians promising the world and reminding us how they will go to Washington and turn the system on its head. Pompeo and Hartman seem – from our vantage point- to be the race’s front-runners, or at least the two candidates with the deepest pockets. They  both air ads explaining how each is best fit to represent the residents of Wichita. Hartman emphasizes his business savvy while Pompeo reminds us all that he served in the military and is a true patriot. But a new Hartman ad seems to be changing the direction of his campaign. The previous ad from the campaign talk about how he promises to stick to the issues and avoid the back-and-forth that dominates so many races- think Moran v. Tiahrt. But Hartman’s new ad does a 180, attacking Pompeo for taking jobs to Mexico and working as a Washington D.C. attorney. Hartman seems to be trying to play the good guy that also throws punches, last time we checked, he can’t do both. Our message to Hartman’s campaign- pick a message and stick to it. Apparently playing the nice guy wasn’t getting him very far in the polls. We’ll see how the attack method works out.

About Katie Stockstill-Sawyer

I am a city girl that is learning about life on the farm. I met and married a fourth-generation farmer, Derek. I am now a farmer's wife and country girl. The move has required a few changes and a lot of learning. But I wouldn't change my new life and all of the little lessons and surprises it provides.
