Tiahrt and Moran respond to SCOTUS gun ruling

Both Todd Tiahrt and Jerry Moran offered the following statements regarding the recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling on 2nd Amendment rights.

Said Tiahrt:

“The Supreme Court today made the right decision to uphold our Constitution and the Second Amendment rights that apply to all Americans,” said Tiahrt. “Judicial activists for years have sought to restrict access to our Second Amendment rights, and today the Constitution won. This is another victory for law-abiding firearm owners.

“This ruling underscores why it is crucial that we thoroughly scrutinize Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan. We cannot afford more judicial activism that puts political preference above adherence to the Constitution. The American people deserve to know where Kagan stands on these important issues.”

And from Moran:

“The Supreme Court’s decision striking down Chicago’s unconstitutional gun ban is another great victory for law-abiding gun owners,” Moran said. “The message it sends to state and local governments across the country is clear: you cannot violate the Second Amendment freedoms of law-abiding Americans. Two years ago, the Supreme Court overturned Washington, D.C.’s gun ban and in an historic decision affirmed an individual’s Second Amendment right. Now, the law of the land confirms what we all know to be true: that all Americans, not just those living in our nation’s capital, enjoy this fundamental right and are to be protected from government intrusion.”
