Wasinger weighs in on poll

Wasinger campaign manager Billy Valentine offered this statement on the SurveyUSA poll.

“While Barnett, Mann, and Huelskamp have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on television ads and voter contact mail, the Wasinger campaign has yet to spend a dime and will do so in July and August with a unique message of Rob’s plan to restore the rural economy. Rob’s double-digit showing is the result of pounding the pavement and taking his message directly to the doorsteps of Republican primary voters.”

  1. “Rob’s double-digit showing is the result of pounding the pavement…”

Hogwash. The poll was a meaningless farce, rendered obsolete from its inception by the unethical hacking of the poll by various means. The outlandish results are more of an indictment of the unethical conduct of Wasinger and his supporters than any grass roots support from a campaign that is failing at all levels to generate any legitimate interest.

    • What are you talking about? I believe they are referring to the SurveyUSA poll that shows Huelskamp in 3rd place. I thought he was the front-runner? And then he said it was a two-man race? What’s the spin now?

  2. Actually, Valentine was commenting on the SurveyUSA poll released today, and not our online, unscientific poll from yesterday.

  3. Thanks Sean. I stand corrected on the source of the poll. Ks?politico, it’s not looking good for your guy no matter how you spin the results. This is obviously going to be a tough race, and that’s a good thing for voters in the First District. Better to have multiple quality candidates than a choice between the evil of two lessers. At least that’s my spin on it.

    • Huelskamp spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on expensive tv ads and his net gain was two. Wasinger spent nothing and net gain was 3. Try spinning that!

  4. I am curious who the “two lessers” are?

  5. And the multiple quality candidates…from the latest poll I see 3 quality candidates: two who remained stagnant, and one who jumped up with double digits.

    • Mann bought his way into 2nd. He’s clearly either self-funding or out of money. His position means he will be closely vetted, meaning his thousands of dollars of money given to liberal Slattery will come up, along with his fundraiser at an exclusive club in Washington, DC, both of which run counter to his message.

  6. I’ve looked online at Federal Election Commission finance reports and it looks to me as Tracey Mann gave $500 and his wife gave $200 to Slattery’s primary race in 2008. It sounds like kspolitico (my guess a very sore Rob Wasinger) is trying to inflate that number from hundreds to thousands. Yeah it’s unfortunate that Mann gave that money but Sean this looks like one of those ‘Opportunistic Attacks’ as a sister in law got a nasty attack robo call in the Salina area from Wasingers campaign saying the same thing.

I find it amazing that Barnett has spent hundreds of thousands ($100K of his own money) and stayed the same in this poll, that Huelskamp has spent thousands and that he only went up 2 points since February and that Wasinger has blown his money and has a measly 3 point lead over Sue Boldra after all the pounding of the pavement. I don’t like the Mann contribution to Slattery, but the 16 point gain is making me look at him a little closer.

  7. I am still trying to understand the reasoning of kspolitico. How come there isn’t a fair argument of Barnett buying his way into first place, granted his “residual” name ID from his gubernatorial race.

I can see how the DC fundraiser can counter his message, but from Huelskamp’s recent mailer, that counters his argument too.

I mean, if someone can jump 16 points 3 or so months, I think a lot of people will be looking at him closer.

  8. kansas01, I had no one in mind when I used the phrase evil of two lessers. It was merely a comment on how many voters feel about their choices in all too many elections.

ks?politico, here’s how I spin the poll. There are three candidates in a statistical dead heat for the lead. You/the carpetbagger is not one of them no matter how many points he/you gained and no matter how much shoe leather he/you walked off meeting and greeting people. Indeed, after gaining 3 points, he/you is/are still irrelevant.
