Sen. Sam Brownback announced his running mate Monday, choosing State Senator Jeff Colyer (R-Overland Park).
His bio, from the Brownback website, states:
Throughout the last 20 years Dr. Colyer has volunteered through the International Medical Corps across the globe in numerous warzones including Iraq, Rwanda, Kosovo, Sierra Leone, and Afghanistan. His work has been featured on 60 Minutes, PBS and in People magazine which described him as “from Kansas, driven by conscience.”
Elected first to the Kansas House of Representatives in 2006 and then to the Kansas Senate in 2008, leadership in public policy is Dr. Colyer’s personal commitment to service. As a freshman legislator, the House Speaker selected him to serve as Chairman of the 2007 Legislative Health Reform Task Force. He also has authored major health reforms including expansion of S-CHIP premium assistance, extending COBRA insurance for the unemployed and a plan to control health insurance costs.
He served as a White House Fellow in the Reagan and first Bush Administrations.
Brownback and Cloyer will soon begin a two day, eight city tour to introduce him to the rest of the state.
