The Kansas Democratic Party is once again going after Republican gubernatorial candidate Sam Brownback but this time, they are attacking Brownback’s roommate Lou Engle.
Engle is the co-founder of The Call, a movement of prayer gathering young adults to pray and fast for breakthrough and revival. He is famous for summoning the “wrath of God” and using it to strike down those that do not follow his teachings.
He’s often touted as extreme and received flack for his recent trip to Uganda where he spoke in favor of a law that would impose imprisonment for homosexuals. Additionally, Engle recently teamed up with Brownback for a televised ‘prayer-cast’ seeking divine intervention in federal legislation.
The KDP is now circulating a petition asking Brownback to denounce Engle and his agenda.
The petition reads as follows:
“The next Governor of Kansas needs a laser-like focus on creating quality jobs. We can’t afford to let a strong and lasting economic recovery be jeopardized by divisive and narrow interests. Now, more than ever, Kansans can’t afford an out-of-touch Washington politician who will open the doors of the Governor’s Mansion to extremists like Lou Engle.
In order to demonstrate that he will focus on policies that unite Kansans to solve the challenges that confront our state Sam Brownback needs to prove his independence from right-wing extremists, and strongly denounce Lou Engle.
We, the undersigned, call upon Sam Brownback to denounce Lou Engle.”
A video petition has also begun circulating. It can be viewed here.
