Republicans going conservative?

The Kansas Democratic Party issued a release today saying the state’s Republican committee approved “a ‘ very conservative[1] platform’ that observers left, right and center are all calling decidedly conservative.”

“This platform reveals that the Republican Party has been taken over by culture warriors like of Sarah Palin, Phil Kline, Sam Brownback and Kris Kobach,” said Kenny Johnston, Executive Director of the Kansas Democratic Party, “In the midst of the worst economic crisis in a generation Brownback and his right-wing special interest allies are fixated on the kind of hot-button politics that divide our communities, while doing nothing to invest in schools and put Kansans back to work.”

While it doesn’t come as a shock to many that the state’s Republican party is conservative, it must have surprised the state’s Democrats who are trying to spin the conservative platform as something new for the state’s GOP candidates. Last time I checked, Republicans were the more conservative of the two parties and have gained followers because of that. But Democrats are using the Republican platform

But Democrats are seeing the emphasis on family issues as “Demofest in August.  Democrats will focus on creating jobs for Kansans, creating world class school, and moving our state forward.”

About Katie Stockstill-Sawyer

I am a city girl that is learning about life on the farm. I met and married a fourth-generation farmer, Derek. I am now a farmer's wife and country girl. The move has required a few changes and a lot of learning. But I wouldn't change my new life and all of the little lessons and surprises it provides.
