Senators Sam Brownback and Pat Roberts, along with Congressman Todd Tiahrt, have the dubious “honor” of receiving the “Plane Waste Award” from Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW).
The report, called the “Pig Book,” (available here) highlights what CAGW believes are porkbarrel projects, either through specific appropriations or through the earmark process. The book states Brownback, Roberts and Tiahrt won the “honor” because:
$2,000,000 by Senate (Transportation, Housing and Urban Development) Appropriations Subcommittee member Sam Brownback (R-Kan.), Senator Pat Roberts (R-Kan.)and House appropriator Todd Tiahrt (R-Kan.) for the National Institute for Aviation Research. Listed among the institute’s “clients” are major aerospace companies, who should have paid for this program.
We’ll set the egg-timer for the inevitable press release from the Moran campaign highlighting this. Seeing as how these two have been bashing each other over earmarks this week (really for the whole campaign), there’s no reason to expect this should slip under the radar.
